In a novel protest, BJP legislators on Thursday sweeped the road from Gun Park to Assembly to express their solidarity with the temporary municipal employees who were suspended by the State Government for participating in a protest.
BJP MLAs cluding G. Kishan Reddy, Dr. K. Lakshman, Chintala Ramchandra Reddy, NVSS Prabhakar, D. Raja Singh and MLC N. Ramchander Rao assembled at the Gun Park. After paying tributes to Telangana Martyrs, they started sweeping the road by wearing safety jackets. Later, they entered the House raising slogans against the government while demanding that the suspension of employees be revoked. They said nearly 1200 workers, with most of them belonging to Scheduled Castes, were sacked as punishment for participating in the strike. They said this act was aimed at suppressing the Freedom of Speech guaranteed by the Constitution. (INN)
