Meerut: The police on Saturday detained Gagan Som, brother of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sangeet Som, for carrying a pistol inside the polling booth.
Sangeet Som is a candidate from Sardhana constituency.
Early in the morning, Sangeet Som had cast his vote as voting began for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
The election process is being held in 73 assembly constituencies spread across 15 districts of the state.
