Bangalore, December 12: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today announced the tabling of a Sand Policy Bill to put an end to Sand Mafia in the state as a ruling BJP legislator threatened to commit suicide if the government failed to take action to ensure availability of sand. Senior BJP leader Shankaralinge Gowda, participating in the discussion during zero hour, alleged that people building their homes were put to hardship due to non-availability of sand, while daily wage workers were out of jobs. Temperamental Mr Shankaralinge Gowda rushed to the well of the House and threatened to commit suicide by strangulating himself with the help a towel he was wearing on his shoulder. However, members including BJP floor leader Suresh Kumar convinced him to withdraw his agitation. Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, who was speaking on the subject, said Mr Shankaralinge Gowda s frustration showed the seriousness of the matter.
