New Delhi: BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly for the entire day on Monday after he along with members of his party came near the Speaker’s podium to protest against water shortage and alleged supply of dirty water in the capital.
As soon as the House began its proceedings for the day, the Leader of Opposition along with other BJP MLAs — Jagdish Pradhan, O.P. Sharma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa — began protesting on the two issues and displayed bottles filled with dirty water.
Speaker Ram Niwas Goel ordered that Gupta be marshalled out after he did not let the former speak. Moreover, Gupta started using the Speaker’s microphone to mark his protest.
“This is murder of democracy. Gupta ji angled my mic in his direction. It is a very serious issue,” the Speaker said.
Following this, the rest of the BJP MLAs walked out.
Later, Gupta took to Twitter and said that the opposition came up with a resolution against the shortage of water and supply of dirty water.
“People in Delhi are calling repeatedly for help… when we brought a resolution against the issue, in an attempt to suppress their voice, the resolution was not accepted,” he said.
