New Delhi: Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance, addressing a Delhi election rally, on Monday raised a storm when he gave the slogan to the crowd–Desh kay gaddaron ko… Goli maro saalon ko.
There was no hidden message in this slogan. Political pundits across ideological lines condemned him for inciting “Hindus to kill Muslims.”
One of the analyst said that the BJP which followed thin lines separating the communal ideology has now allowed its senior members and even ministers to incense public on Hindu-Muslim divide.
Anurag Thakur was addressing the election campaign for BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary in Rithala constituency in NW Delhi. Giriraj Singh, Minister for Animal Husbandry, was seated on the dais when Thakur was trying to incite the crowd as part of his election campaign. Later Home Minister Amit Shah also addressed the rally from the same stage.
Congress leader, Abhishek Manu Singhvi reacted by tweeting “Disappointing to see a young leader like #AnuragThakur provoking to make such poisonous slogans during electioneering. This seems to be the modus operandi of the entire party.”
Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena taunted; when the junior Finance Minister of the country done with the shooting of traitors, hope he will shoot the reasons for the economic slump through the budget.
Mr Thakur’s video has gone viral which is said to being scrutinized by the Election Commission. “We have taken cognizance of the incident and have sought a report from the district election officer,” a senior official in the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said. He also said “However, we have not received any complaint so far.”
“The Election Commission must take immediate action against the minister for instigating violence and take appropriate measures,” Congress spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said.
