New Delhi: BJP leaders, including Union ministers and chief ministers, on Tuesday hailed Amit Shah for completing two years as the party president, saying under his “strong leadership” BJP has strengthened its position in various states and become the largest party.
“Under him, BJP will continue to grow, work for development of India & serve all sections of our society,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a tweet. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said that under Shah, BJP has strengthened its position in various states and become the largest party. “Congratulations to our party President Amit Shah for leading it in such a magnificent way to make it the vibrant, popular and largest party,” Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.
Heaping praise on Shah, newly-appointed Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example. Two years of Amit Shah have been exemplary, he said. Shah had taken over as BJP President two years ago with the then incumbant Rajnath Singh joining the Narendra Modi-led government. He was elected unanimously as party president again in January for a full term of three years.
Under Shah, BJP claims to have become the world’s largest political party by enrolling over 11 crore members. The party has also won states like Maharashtra, Haryana and Assam for the first time but has also suffered massive defeats in Delhi and Bihar. Though it was in power in Maharashtra earlier as the junior partner of Shiv Sena it is now the single-largest party in the state.
