Hyderabad, September 19: BJP leaders Mr. Kishen Reddy and Dr. K. Lakshman have been arrested by the police at around 2 AM on Saturday at the Kushaiguda police station for staging a dharna demanding the suspension of the inspector of police.

The BJP leaders alleged that the Circle Inspector of Kushaiguda police station has misbehaved with a lady ABVP worker during a demonstration in connection with the Telangana liberation day on Friday.

Following this incident, ABVP workers have launched an agitation, demanding the suspension of the police officer. BJP, TRS and TRS student wing have also joined the agitation and tension prevailed at the police station. Police, who tried to pacify the people by stating that the officer would be transferred, could not control them. The BJP leaders were then arrested. While Kishan Reddy was shifted to the Nacharam police station, Lakshman was shifted to Keesara police station.

Cyberabad Commissioner Mr. Prabhakara Reddy has issued orders around 2300 hrs on Friday, relieving the CI T. Manohar and SI Narender Reddy from duties. Mr. Ravinder, CI of L B Nagar Zone was immediately posted as Kushaiguda inspector. However, the agitators were not satisfied with the action and demanding the suspension of the two police officers, and continued their dharna at the police station. Police and BJP workers pushed and jostled each other.

It may be recalled that ABVP workers have hoisted the national flag on the Sub Registrar’s office at Kushaiguda in the morning on Friday and later 150 students of the ABVP started in a rally to make the Kushaiguda college students boycott their classes.

On knowing the information, Kushaiguda inspector Manohar reached the spot and stopped the rally. He has also tried to take the ABVP activists into custody. He has allegedly misbehaved with a girl student at the time. Students who have noticed this, caught the officer by collar and pushed him away.

Police have arrested ABVP leaders Vidita, Sailaja, Soujanya, Swapna, Srikant and Raju under section 151 of the Cr.PC and shifted them to police station. As TV channels have telecast the footage of the inspector misbehaving with the girl student, workers of the TRS, BJP and TRS student wing have joined in large number at the police station and raised slogans demanding the suspension of the officer. Tension further mounted when MLA Kishan Reddy and former MLA Mr. Lakshman reached the spot.

Victim of the ill treatment has lodged a complaint with the new inspector of the police station. She said she would also go to the state Human Rights Commission on Saturday.

The BJP leaders who were released continued their dharna and the agitation is continuing even on Saturday morning. Kishan Reddy has said that there was no question of their calling off the agitation, until the officer was suspended. He said it was atrocious that the officer chose to behave indecently with a girl who has been working for a principle. He said the Home Minister should decide whether she should stand by women or by those who harass women.
