Hyderabad, July 05: Internal differences in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the fore again at the State executive committee meeting which began here today.
BJP national secretary N Indrasena Reddy and party State general secretaryDr Laxman have boycotted the meet. Several prominent leaders and chiefs of several district units reportedly said that the leadership should be held responsible for the poor performance of the party in the recently held general elections.
After the inaugural session, presidents of several Telangana and coastal districts raised their voice against the party leadership for failing to give due importance to the elections. There was a heated argument over the issue.
It is after 17 years that the party’s State Executive meet is being held here after winning the Nizamabad Assembly seat defeating PCC president D Srinivas in the 2009 polls. Party State president B Dattatreya said the membership drive will be launched July 6.
BJP national committee leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, Prakash Jawedkar, Bangaru- Laxman and all the State leaders including 250 delegates participated in the meeting.
At a separate press conference, Venkaiah Naidu dared the Congress to declare that it would rebuild Babri Masjid at Ayodhya. He alleged that the government was using Liberhan Commission for its political gains. He said the leadership was chalking out a special plan for strengthening the party in 140 Lok Sabha constituencies in South India. “The southern states are important for any party to get to power at the Centre,’’ he said.
The city was decked up in saffron flags for the two-day meet while all the arrangements were supervised by Nizamabad MLA Y Laxminarayana.
