Azamgarh, June 23: A 73-YEAR-OLD local BJP leader was shot dead outside his house at Raidopur Colony in Azamgarh in the early hours of Sunday. The incident created a sensation in the posh colony. Police suspected old enmity led to the killing. A manhunt has been launched for the assailants. The BJP leader’s son has lodged an FIR.
The BJP leader Bhairon Singh was also a leader of brick kiln owners of the district. According to reports reaching here, Singh was a regular morning walker. As he came out of his house for a morning walk around 4 am, he noticed two youths approaching him on a motorcycle.
Singh tried to rush back into his house, but the youths opened fire and missed. Singh then tried to run away, but the youths chased him down and pumped two bullets into his chest. Getting information about the incident, Azamgarh police chief Ramit Sharma met the family members of the deceased at the post-mortem house and inquired if Singh had an old rivalry
