Hyderabad, April 02: The BJP district unit leaders criticised the district administration for terming the processions after India’s victory over Pakistan cricket team in the World Cup semi-final match as ‘communal’ and targeting their party alone by arresting the cadres.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, BJP all-India Kisan Morcha secretary P. Sugunakar Rao, district president M. Arjun Rao, town president Bandi Sanjay and others flayed the district police machinery for arresting only the BJP leaders after the violence broke out in Karimnagar during the victory processions. “If the victory procession was organised by the BJP, how could the Congress and TRS leaders participate in it and sustain injuries in the stone-pelting?”, Mr. Sugunakar Rao said. He said that several Congress and TRS leaders and other general public who participated in victory processions also sustained injuries in stone pelting by miscreants at Rajiv Chowk in the town.
He flayed the government for encouraging ‘traitors’ and harassing nationalist leaders. He alleged that Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu and other Congress leaders were appeasing a particular community for vote-bank politics. Mr. Bandi Sanjay asked whether there was any freedom for Indians to celebrate the victory of their cricket team.
