BJP lashes out at Congress for protecting Chandy

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday hit out at the Congress for rejecting its demand for resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, who is facing corruption charges in the solar panel case, and accused the party of protecting him.

“We are shocked by the Congress high command’s decision to protect a proven corrupt chief minister despite the evidence. Perhaps the reason for this is because the Congress high command is also facing charges of severe corruption charges of almost thousands of crores in the National Herald case,” BJP spokesperson M. J. Akbar told reporters here.

“When the Congress high command is facing corruption charges, perhaps they have no moral authority to ask one of their chief ministers to resign for the same otherwise they would have to probably resign themselves,” he added.

The BJP leader also accused Chandy of sending emissaries to Saritha Nair, one of the two main accused in the scam, and termed it a “shocking and appalling misuse of power in order to defend corruption or in order to protect himself”.

“This is absolute misuse of state authority. Chandy has no moral or political authority to remain in power even for a minute,” he added.
