BJP justifying fake encounter to ‘satiate bloodlust’: Congress

New Delhi : The Congress Party on Friday said it is ironical that the BJP is basing its entire strategy of trying to justify a fake encounter on a testimony of a drug peddler-turned-terrorist and asked whether the ruling party at the Centre stands for extra judicial killings in order to satiate their bloodlust.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said it is extremely disturbing that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has used the testimony of a drug peddler-turned terrorist in order to justify a fake encounter.

“It is indeed ironical that the BJP is basing its entire strategy of trying to justify a fake encounter on the testimony of a drug peddler-turned terrorist,” said Tewari.

“The question which I would like to ask the Home Minister of India, and since, he is the Home Minister the question becomes extremely germane and fundamental. Does the BJP, NDA government, does the BJP as a political party stand for extra judicial killings in order to satiate their bloodlust?”he asked.

Tewari further asked if this government believes that the due process of law should be subverted in this case.

The Union Home Minister had yesterday said that the opposition parties must apologise to the nation for their ‘malicious campaign’ against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the killing of Ishrat Jehan in an encounter in Gujarat in 2004.

“You must have heard what David Headley has just said in the court that Ishrat Jahan was a suicide bomber. Ishrat Jahan regarding whom many accusations were levelled against our leader, tell me, will the accusing political parties now apologise to the nation for trying to fool the people?” he said while addressing a rally in Thiruvananthapuram.

Pakistani-American terrorist David Headley told a Mumbai Special court yesterday that Ishrat Jahan, who was killed in an encounter in 2004 by the Gujarat Police, was working for LeT.

The 19-year-old college girl and three others were killed in 2004 in an encounter by police in Gujarat. They were accused of being involved in a plot to assassinate the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)
