BJP holds road blockade in Thane district

Thane, August 09: Activists of BJP today staged a road blockade and courted arrest across the district to protest against Congress-NCP ruled state government.

The agitation was held at Talasari, Bhayander, Jawhar, Mokhada, Murbad, Vasai and other places that held the traffic in the areas for hours before the party activists were rounded up by police.

Tribals and farmers in the district also took part in the agitation and aired their grievances.

The agitators demanded immediate release of fishermen from Talasari who are in Pakistani prisons after they strayed into neighbouring country’s waters since several years.

They demanded that wives of the captive prisoners be given due compensation by the government till the release of the fishermen.

The other demands included, availability of oil and cereals at fair price shops besides the diesel used for fishing boats, insurance for fishermen and admission to the tribals in ashram schools etc.

No untoward incident took place during the agitation besides the traffic was held up for hours, police said.
