New Delhi, March 29: The Congress Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had no moral right to question it on the Shunglu committee findings against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over lapses ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games and asked the party to apologise to the nation for misleading the country on its Hindutva ideology.
“The BJP has lost the moral right to ask any question till it apologises for misleading the country,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, dubbing as “ridiculous and hilarious” BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s remarks on the Delhi government rejecting the findings of the Shunglu committee that went into the lapses in the preparations for the Commonwealth Games.
“The BJP should first apologise for misleading the entire nation. The WikiLeaks revelation and the reaction of the BJP later has brought forth the real face of the BJP,” he added.
Tewari said leaders who have rejected their own ideology do not have any moral right to ask any questions.
When asked about the Shunglu committee findings on the Sheila Dikshit government, the Congress spokesperson refused to comment, saying the party would wait till the government took a definite view on the matter.
Continuing the Congress attack on Jaitley, Tewari said: “Arun Jaitley has clarified that he had never said Hindutva was an opportunistic issue. It clearly means that Jaitley told the American official that Hindutva was merely a talking point and the party has no conviction to it.”
He said since 1987 the entire nation was misled by the BJP, which did not have any conviction on the issues it raised. “These issues had led to rioting in some parts of the country and hundreds of lives were also lost,” he alleged.
