BJP finetunes plan to hijack TJAC

Hyderabad, April 20: Keen to strike the iron while it is hot, the BJP has decided to capitalise on the Telangana movement by organising programmes across the state targeting the UPA for `belying’ the expectations of the people of the region.

Telangana leaders of the party, who met two days ago at the party’s state office, discussed in detail the contours of the agitation that they would like to evolve to make the party’s presence strong in Telangana districts. The meeting was presided over by party state president G Kishan Reddy. The meeting also reviewed the situation obtaining in the region after the Million March and the activities of the Telanagna Joint Action Committee The BJP decided to utilise TJAC platform to widen its base in Telangana. The party leaders will take part in all programmes of TJAC so long as they will not run counter to the party’s ideology.

The state leaders received directions from the national leadership to play an active part in TJAC activities and unite all anti-Congress forces. “As the TRS wants to merge with the Congress, we want to work in concert with all those arraigned against the Congress,” said a BJP leader.

Said BJP Telangana Udyama Committee chairman T Rajeshwar Rao: “I agree we have not taken active part in the TJAC activities of late. Now we decided to take part in all the programmes that the TJAC will come up with. We will concentrate on strengthening the TJAC at all levels to give fillip to the Telangana movement. The TJAC leadership should prepare people to corner the Congress MPs and MLAs for keeping silent or extending deadlines to the UPA for announcement on Telangana.” The leaders also decided to strengthen the party at all levels by continuing the Jana Jagaran programme till the end of May. As part of it, two public meetings will be held in May and June. While one is likely to be held at Karimnagar and addressed by senior leader Sushma Swaraj, the other will be held at Nalgonda or Mahaboobnagar. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is likely to be invited to speak at this meeting.

Kishan Reddy, while sinding a report on the political situation in the state, urged the national leadership to depute senior leaders to take part in the ongoing party programmes all over the state.
