Ranchi, August 23: BJP today said it favoured fresh elections in Jharkhand rather than opening talks again with JMM to explore possibilities of a government formation.
“I do not know how such rumours are spreading time and time again. Since withdrawal of support to Shibu Soren-led government, the party has always maintained its demand for mid-term polls,” BJP’s state unit spokesman Sanjay Seth told PTI here.
“The arithmetic in the 81-member assembly is such that it will not give a stable government,” he said.
Jharkhand is under President’s rule from June 1 after JMM president Shibu Soren had resigned from the chief minister’s post after failing to cobble up a majority following the BJP’s withdrawal of support.
The BJP leadership had then said it was forced to withdraw support following conflicting statements from the JMM.
