Ahmedabad, August 31: Revisiting the issue of “misuse of the CBI”, the BJP on Monday disrupted the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, briefly demanding a discussion in the light of senior Gujarat IPS officer Geeta Johri’s claims that the agency was “pressurising” her to name some top political leaders in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
As soon as the House met, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley demanded a discussion on the “functioning of the CBI and the entire politicisation of that functioning”. Congress members, led by Praveen Rashtrapal, immediately objected to the demand.
With Chairman Hamid Ansari pointing out that matters which are sub judice could not be discussed, Jaitley said the BJP wanted a discussion on the functioning of the CBI, which is not pending in any court. He also referred to Johri’s allegation.
