BJP has ‘demonetised’ democracy: Rahul on Meghalaya govt formation

New Delhi [India]: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demonetised democracy.

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said the BJP had usurped power in Meghalaya through proxy.

Accusing the BJP of disrespecting the people’s mandate, Rahul said, “With just 2 seats, the BJP has usurped power in Meghalaya, through a proxy. Like in Manipur and Goa, showing utter disregard for the mandate of the people. Obsessed instead with grabbing power, using big money to create an opportunistic alliance.”

As per the results of the Meghalaya State Assembly polls declared on March 3, the Congress party won 21 seats, while the NPP bagged 19.

The BJP thereafter had suggested that the NPP and UDP form an Non-Congress government in the state with NPP President Conrad Sangma as the new chief minister of Meghalaya. (ANI)
