BJP demands White Paper on supply of seeds to farmers

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday demanded that the State Government release a White Paper on the supply of subsidised seeds to farmers in the State.

Talking to media persons at the party office at Nampally, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy alleged that the State and Central Governments have totally failed to supply subsidised seeds to farmers despite the beginning of khariff season. Stating that the government should have supplied the seeds to farmers by May 15, he said, however, the government failed to make arrangements to supply the seeds despite starting of tilling operations. “Though the agriculture operations started, the seeds failed to reach the farmers and hit their farm operations,” he said.

The government and agriculture officials failed to procure the seeds and distribute them to farmers, he alleged. With government officials issuing different statement confusing the farmers, he asked the government to release a ‘White Paper’ on supply of seeds to farmers. He said that the government should immediately conduct raids on those seed shops which are selling the subsidised seeds in black market. He also demanded that the government help the farmers by increasing the MSP announced by Centre on paddy, groundnut, cotton, greengram, Bengal gram and soya.

Stating that irregularities took place to the tune of crores of rupees in the implementation of drip irrigation scheme, he demanded that the government order a detailed probe into it.

In protest against the government’s failure to supply subsidised seeds to farmers, Kishan Reddy said that the BJP would organize `Jail Bharao’ programme at all agriculture officers across the State on June 22. (INN)
