Hyderabad, November 22: The state BJP has demanded the Government to release a white paper on the ‘Jala Yagnam’ (Irrigation projects), giving details of the funds earmarked, the amounts spent and the quantum paid as compensation to the affected farmers as compensation village-wise.
Addressing the media here on Sunday, Chairman of BJP Jalayagnam Committee and national executive member, Prof. S V Seshagiri Rao said that the Polavaram project works should be expedited keeping in mind the needs in the coming five years. He also wanted the State Government to strive to get national status for Polavaram and Pranahitha-Chevella projects. He assured that the BJP, the main opposition party at National level, would extend all support to bring pressure on the Centre in the matter.
Stating that there would be no food insecurity in the country if Polavaram project was completed, he alleged the State Government was trying to escape from its responsibility in the name of national status to the project.
The BJP leader alleged that though Rs.1,000 crore was spent on Pranahitha-Chevella project, no work has been done so far and not even a basketful of gravel was dug so far. He flayed the Government for showing negligent attitude towards Devadula lift irrigation project.
Prof. Ro found fault with the Central Government for adopting a negligent attitude towards irrigation projects which would be useful for generations together, while spending 75,000 crore on the Commonwealth games which was just a 11-day affair.
