Bharatiya Janata Party state president G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday demanded the State Government withdraw notifications and issue fresh notification dropping reservation in the educational institutions and public employment for religious minorities.
Talking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat, Kishan Reddy hailed the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s verdict setting aside 4.5 percent sub-quota for religious minorities from the 27 percent OBC quota in the fields of public employment and education. He appealed to the Chief Minister not to extend the reservation for religious minorities and conduct fresh enumeration of OBCs and other caste and religion before the reservation of wards and villages is decided.
Kishan Reddy said that the reservation to local bodies’ elections should be made without application of Muslim Reservation Act and re-enumeration of BCs and other religions be made and then only reservation for wards and municipalities and villages be reserved for respective communities. He appealed to the government to constitute Economically Backward Commission and provide reservation to other communities including religious minorities on the basis of economic backwardness. (INN)
