BJP demands fresh Assembly polls in Jharkhand

Ranchi, July 01: The BJP today demanded fresh Assembly elections to install a popular government in President’s rule-bound Jharkhand.

“President’s rule means central rule and the Congress is ruling the state. So elections are necessary for (installing) a popular government,” BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said at a press conference here.

He, however, evaded questions whether his party was not responsible for imposition of President’s rule, saying, “You (mediapersons) know the sequence very well.”

Jharkhand came under President’s rule on June 1 after no party staked claim for formation of a new government after JMM President Shibu Soren quit as Chief Minister, a day before he was to prove his majority in the House.
