BJP demands CBI probe in drugs scandal involving six cops in Goa

Panaji, April 28: Senior BJP leader Manohar Parrikar today sought a CBI probe into the ”drugs scandal” involving six cops belonging to the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Goa police, in deference to the directives of the Supreme Court in similar cases involving the police.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Mr Parrikar said he would raise the issue during the ad hoc committee of the Home Ministry he was to chair and ask the authorities whether they were enquiring into the case with details regarding the drug deals between an Israeli suspect Atala now in custody and the police under the protective umbrella of a cabinet minister.

The issue could be probed by questioning Atala’s girl friend and Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse, who had exposed the nexus between drug dealers and police, through youtube.com and had promised to expose the son of a politician in power who had been promoting the narcotics trade in Goa, if necessary, besides the cops.

The state crime branch CID, which had taken up the investigation after six cops were suspended and five of them arrested yesterday, said it had sought the help of the Interpol for contacting the model now in Sweden for more details in the case.

While Mr Parrikar said the case was another instance of ”fixing” to protect the cops and the politician, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat assured mediapersons today on the sidelines of a function that he would enquire about the case with the Home Minister soon for details.

Regarding the CBI case he was facing, Mr Parrikar said he was not afraid of any case but demanded that the investigation be completed at the earliest as the probe was related to alleged irregularities in the works related to infrastructure development of the IFFI-2004.

He is facing 22 charges in this case on the basis of the complaint lodged by deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly Mauvin Godinho on the strength of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on the conduct of IFFI for which Goa has been declared permanent venue since 2004 under the then BJP regime headed by Mr Parrikar.
