BJP demands CBI inquiry into irregularities in TTD

Vijayawada, July 16: The local unit of the BJP today demanded the Andhra Pradesh Government to order a CBI inquiry into the largescale irregularities, misappropriation and misdeeds being committed in the Tirumala-Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD).

Addressing a joint press conference in the presence of Sri Guru Peetham convener S Venkateswara Rao, which launched a movement against the irregularities and misdeeds being committed in the TTD, BJP official spokesperson U Srinivasa Raju sought a CBI inquiry into the misdeeds, including missing of precious jewellery, which were gifted by the 15th century emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya.

He also demanded the government to amend the Endowment Act of 1987, which empowers the government to interfere in the affairs of temples and spiritual organizations.

The TTD administration was misusing the funds of Lord Venkateswara temple by constructing of roads which should be done by the government, instead of spending on spiritual affairs, the BJP leader charged.

He opined that the Management of TTD be handed over to the seers and pontiffs to protect the sanctity and to safeguard the sentiments of crores of Hindus.

Sri Guru Peetham convener S Venkateswara Rao alleged that everything was commercialized in TTD and it has become a ‘rehabilitation centre’ for the political unemployed.
