Ahmedabad, August 22: The BJP has today declared five candidates for the assembly by-elections to be held for seven seats on September 10. The party is yet to announce names for two seats.
In Dehgam, BJP has fielded Kalyansinh Chauhan, who has been defeated twice by Congress’ Jagdish Thakor, MP from Patan Lok Sabha segment, which necessitated the by-election in the assembly segment.
In Sami, BJP has fielded Bhavsinh Rathod, who had quit Congress to join BJP and contest Lok Sabha polls from Patan.
However, he lost to Congress’ Jagdish Thakor.
Rathod was a Congress MLA from Sami seat but had to resign when he joined BJP.
In Dhoraji, the ruling party has fielded Jaysukh Thesia, a new name. Thesia is a local BJP leader and has not contested any election previously.
Dhoraji by-election was necessitated because sitting Congress MLA Vithal Radadia contested and won Porbandar parliamentary seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
In Chotila, Vashram Korani has been given party ticket to contest the seat, which was held by Congress MLA Popat Jinjaria, who died a few months back, necessitating the by- election in the segment.
