BJP Dalit MP Savitri Phule attacks Modi govt, says ‘Constitution not safe’

Lucknow: Saffron clad BJP Dalit MP from Behraich Savitribai Phule has called for “Bharatiya Samvidhan Bachao (Save Indian Constitution)” rally at the Kanshiram Smriti Upvan in Lucknow on April 1, to revolt against government’s ‘anti-Dalit policies’. “There are few Union ministers and BJP MPs who are constantly pursuing anti-Dalit policies and conspiring to end reservations for the SC/ ST,” she alleged.

Phule further alleged that fear is prevailing in Dalit, backward and minority communities due to Modi government’s wrong policies. After holding a Dharna in Lucknow, the Dalit MP will also try to meet the prime minister and BJP president Amit Shah to demand reservation for Dalits, she said.

Phule spoke to National Herald and said “Sometimes it’s being said that we have come to change the Constitution, sometimes it is said that the reservation policy would be cancelled, sometimes it is said that we will dilute the reservation policy—which is given by the Constitution—to the level that it will be of no use. If reservations and Constitution are not safe, how will the rights of the Bahujan people be protected?”

Persecution of the SC/ST community is the highest in the country, without being provided with an equal status, Phule said.

Phule listed certain names, Uma Bharti, Udit Raj, Anupriya Patel, RLSP leader Upendra Kushwaha and many more; claiming that they also are concerned over [dilution of] SC/ST (PoA) Act. “I think all leaders from Bahujan Samaj should come together to save the constitution,” she added.
