New Delhi : The Congress Party on Wednesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has always created religious divide for electoral gains and used the Ram Janmabhoomi as an election issue.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the BJP, RSS and fellow organisations have been using the name of Lord Ram and the idea of building Ram temple to woo the electorates.
“The way religious divide is being created in Uttar Pradesh and whole of the nation is evident. And I hope that the government will discontinue all this,” he added.
Earlier in the day, BJP’s Uttar Pradesh chief Keshav Prasad Maurya asserted that ‘Ram Mandir’ has never been a poll issue for his party, which will contest the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on the development issue.
Maurya also expressed confidence that the BJP would win the assembly polls and establish ‘ram rajya’ in Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
