BJP Councilor escapes unhurt in attack

Anand, August 11: A BJP Councilor escaped unhurt in an attack by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants who fired at his car here today, police said.

The incident took place when Chetan Patel, who is also Secretary of the Charotar Education Society, left his house in his car in Alkapuri area, they said.

The duo fired a couple of rounds from a revolver on Patel’s car, some 100 feet from his house. One of the bullets hit the car’s back while the other pierced the door, police said, adding the Councilor escaped unhurt.

Police suspect involvement of an alleged gangster, Mukesh Harjani, in the incident, as Patel had last week filed a police complaint against him.

Harjani is also a suspect in the murder of Patel’s fellow partyman Alpesh Patel in May this year, police said.

A case has been registered and investigations were on to find if there was any link between the murder of Alpesh and attack on Patel, they added.

No arrest has been made.
