BJP to contest Sankarankoil Assembly bypoll

Madurai, February 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest in the coming Sankarankoil (SC) assembly by-election. Disclosing this to newsmen here today, BJP State President Pon Radhakrishnan said a three-member committee would be formed to receive the applications from the aspirants and the party’s candidate name will be announced soon. Referring to the power crisis in the State, he said though the AIADMK had stated that the power crisis would be sorted out within 100 days if it came to power, it had not taken steps to end power crisis. ”Commissioning of Koodankulam nuclear plant is vital for solving the power crisis in Tamil Nadu but, it seems the state government is supporting the anti-Nuke group,” he alleged and urged urged the central and state governments to take immediate steps for commissioning Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant. Condemning the Central Government’s plan to set up a National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) without consulting the state governments, Mr Radhakrishnan said because of such actions the Centre was loosing its credibility and one such incident was West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee staying away from the inauguration of NSG hub at Kolkata by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
