BJP to contest bypoll in 17 assembly seats in AP

Bharatiya Janata Party Andhra Pradesh Unit President G Kishan Reddy today said the party will contest the by-elections for the 17 Assembly seats caused due to disqualification of the YSR Congress party legislators. Addressing a press conference here, he said the party would contest from the all 17 seats in the by-elections. Mr Reddy said the party had not decided so far on extending its support to TRS, however, he said the BJP will contest the Mahaboobnagar assembly seat in the elections. He said the BJP was in favour of Polavaram irrigation project though the people of Telangana region were opposing it. Mr Reddy claimed that the BJP will come to power at the Centre in 2014 general elections as the people in the country were fed up with the UPA Government. Mr Reddy was here to attend meeting of the state executive members and party district presidents of the coastal districts from Nellore to Srikakulam.

BJP National Executive Member K Haribabu said the party will launch agitational programmes in the coastal districts to bring pressure on the state government to complete the irrigation projects in the coastal areas. He said 150 teams will conduct meeting in all the villages in 200 mandals and create awareness among the people on the importance of the irrigation projects for the development of coastal areas.

He said the meeting decided to launch agitational programmes from April 1 to 6 in coastal area on the theme of ‘Irrigation Projects-Palle Poru . The meeting also decided to bring pressure on the government not to complete the Vamsadhara project- Phase II in Srikakulam district, Thotapalli irrigation project in Vizianagaram district, Polavaram project, Penna Delta modernisation in Nellore district and Velugonda project in Ongole and other projects in coastal area, he added.
