BJP, Congress in tune over Pak involvement in Mazar-i-Sharif attack

New Delhi:Expressing serious concern over reports suggesting the role of Pakistan Army in the January 3 attack on the consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said that activities carried out against India, especially through terrorism, need to be resolved.

“This is a matter of concern. These reports are coming and whatever is done again India and against the interest of the Indians anywhere, especially by terrorist activities, these need to be resolved,” BJP leader Nalin Kohli told ANI

“I am sure that this information when it reaches the government in a proper manner, this information is bound to be taken up,” he added.

The Congress Party also launched a full-fledged attack on Islamabad after the Afghan Police confirmation and said this has only bolstered India’s assertion.

It was certain that there is involvement of Pakistani military in the attack on the Indian Consulate in Afghanistan.

The confirmation from the Afghanistan Police has only bolstered our assertion that the Pakistani military is also involved in the terrorist activities taking place in India as well as abroad,” Congress leader Pramod Tiwari told ANI.

“India should not only protest but also put forward its assertion strongly so that Pakistan can learn a lesson from it and such incidents do not occur in future again,” he added.

Echoing similar views, Congress leader P.L. Punia said that the Foreign Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan should not take place in such an atmosphere.

“The attack on Mazar-i-Sharif was done by Pakistan military as per the Afghan Police. It is very unfortunate. If such is the case, where is Indo-Pak relation heading to?” Punia told ANI.

An intense gun-battle between security forces and the attackers took place outside the Indian Consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif after assailants attempted to storm the mission building on January 3.

The standoff ended on the night of January 4 after the attackers who entered the building opposite the Indian Consulate were killed.

One police solider also lost his life and nine others including three civilians were wounded in the incident. (ANI)
