Khatkar Kalan, Nawanshahar, Punjab March 23: Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 80th death anniversary today at his native village here, as politicians used the occasion to trumpet their cause.
Punjab Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at the memorial at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district close to India’s border with Pakistan.
The main function was however organized at Bhagat Singh’s birth place Khatkar Kalan in Nawanshahar district where the ruling SAD-BJP alliance, the main Opposition Congress and other parties organized their programmes.
A large number of people from all over the state converged to attend the programmes organized here.
Langar (community kitchens) were organized here to provide meals to the visitors. Traffic on the Jalandhar Chandigarh Highway was diverted to other routes in view of the visitors.
