BJP confident of landslide win in Maharashtra

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday claimed that it is heading for a landslide win in the upcoming legislative assembly polls in Maharashtra, stating that the alleged admission by former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan of being a part of the incidents of corruption taking place in the state was a signal that the Congress party had admitted defeat.

“It has been expressed that Congress has lost ground; they have accepted defeat. The admission of the former chief minister means that the BJP is heading for a landslide victory in the state. The BJP is heading for a full majority in the polls,” BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here at a press conference.

Accusing Chavan of protecting corrupt leaders in the state while he was at the helm, Rudy further said, “He protected the corrupt in Maharashtra, he protected the corrupt Congress leaders in Maharashtra and he was an accomplice to the crimes committed in Maharashtra.”

The BJP leader further opined that from Chavan’s own statements, which he had made to the newspaper, proved that he was responsible for not initiating any action against NCP leader Ajit Pawar in the Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam.

In an interview given to a leading newspaper, Chavan reportedly admitted that he failed to act against Congress leaders. The newspaper further quoted him as saying that had he sent the top state Congressmen to jail, the party would have been decimated.

The Chief Minister also reportedly said in the interview that he did not order an inquiry against the irrigation scam involving NCP leader Ajit Pawar to keep the Congress-NCP alliance intact. (ANI)
