BJP complains to EC over Rahul Gandhi’s 22,000 deaths claim

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s comment that if Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister of the country, then thousands of people will lose their lives.

“The statement was highly provocative and we have registered a complaint with the EC in this concern,” said BJP leader Ananth Kumar.

The Gandhi scion had reportedly said that around 22,000 people had lost their lives during the rule of NDA as compared to 800 lives lost under UPA rule in the last five years.

“During the NDA government’s tenure, nearly 22,000 people died due to terrorism. One of their ministers went to Kandahar to plead with terrorists for the release hostages (of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane),” said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally in Kanpur.

“While during the past five years of UPA rule, only 800 people have died due to terrorism,” he said.
