New Delhi: The Congress party on Saturday described the mega event to be organised at the India Gate this evening to celebrate two years of NDA government as a celebration without achieving anything in terms of governance.
“The BJP is celebrating without having achieved anything. The nation needs to know what they have done for the welfare of the people. The public should be well aware of the contributions BJP claims to have made in the economic sector,” senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI.
Kharge, alleged that the ruling dispensation failed to control the price of an essential commodity like pulses, but is smart enough to make money due to the falling prices of the crude oil in the international market in the name of excise duty.
“The NDA could have used this amount to refurbish the drought-hit areas and should have released the debts of the farmers, who are forced to commit suicide,” he said.
Hitting out at the BJP for calling the Modi government a ‘decisive and corruption-free regime’, Kharge cited scams including Vyapam, Lalitgate and Bank of Baroda forex scam.
“Even in Gujarat, the petro-chemical corporation has spent nearly 20,000 crore. Is it not corruption, after all?” he asked.
The comments from the senior Congress leader comes in wake of a gala event featuring Bollywood biggies to celebrate Narendra Modi Government’s second anniversary celebrations at India Gate this evening.
The event, titled ‘Badhtey Kadam (advancing steps)’, to be broadcast on Doordarshan from 5 p.m today will feature panel discussions with several ministers, celebrities and experts, along with beneficiaries of the government’s welfare schemes.(ANI)
