BJP calls Prez address directionless; Cong hails

New Delhi, February 22: It was bouquets and brickbats for government over the President’s address with the Opposition dubbing it as a ‘directionless document lacking sensitivity’ when the common man is hit hard by price rise, a view dismissed by the Congress.

The Congress hailed the first address of President Pratibha Patil after the UPA-II came to power as one showcasing government’s commitment to ‘aam admi’.

It looks “more like a DAVP advertisement” which propagates the government’s programmes, though it mentions price rise and internal security issues, said BJP.

Besides, the address lacks in giving a direction on major challenges facing the country, Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha, S S Ahluwalia said.

He enumerated the issues facing the nation today, including the problem of price rise and said the government was insensitive to them.

“The nation is burdened with the problem of price rise.
