BJP blames officials for Gopuram collapse

Bapatla, November 01: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Monday stated that the Gali Gopuram of Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple in Bapatla collapsed mainly due to lack of coordination between the Archeological Survey of India and Endowments Department.

Talking to media persons after inspecting the recently collapsed Gali Gopuram, the BJP leader said that the state was losing heritage and historical structures due to lack of proper understanding between the departments concerned. He slammed the both departments for their failure to protect the ancient structures.

The government should take necessary measures for passing ancient heritage structures for posterity, he demanded.

Responding to a question on Telangana, Dattatreya said that the development of State would be possible with smaller states and that is why the BJP was in favour of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. If the Telangana state materializes, the Telugu speaking people would not separate, but will have two prosperous State, he said.

However, he condemned the attacks on settlers of Seemandhra region in the name of Telangana statehood agitation.
