New Delhi: BJP has asked its Lok Sabha members, including ministers, to be in their constituencies on April 24 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a meeting in Jharkhand on the last day of his government’s ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday’ programme starting today.
While the Lok Sabha MPs will hear PM Modi on the Panchayati Raj Day in some panchayat of their constituencies, the party’s Rajya Sabha members will be spending the day in a state alloted to them, party’s National Secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
Uttar Pradesh, which goes to assembly polls early next year, has been given top priority with several of the party’s Rajya Sabha members who are also union ministers, including Arun Jaitley, Smriti Irani, Suresh Prabhu and Manohar Parrikar, likely to be spending the day there.
BJP chief Amit Shah is also likely to be in UP on April 24.
Among other ministers, Birender Singh is likely to be in Haryana, J P Nadda in Himachal Pradesh, M Venkaiah Naidu either in Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, Thavar Chand Gehlot in Madhya Pradesh and Prakash Javadekar in Tamil Nadu.
The 11-day ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday’ programme will kick off on B R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary today with PM Modi addressing a meeting in Mhow, his birth place.
BJP too has made elaborate arrangements to make the event a success, asking its leaders and workers to fan across panchayats to “promote” Ambedkar’s legacy and publicise the government’s “pro-village and pro-farmers” measures during the event.
Mr Sharma said the party’s office-bearers will also be spending the last day in either the state they come from or the state where they are working for the party.
