BJP Asks Govt To Take Immediate Flood Relief Measures

Bharatiya Janata Party state president G. Kishan Reddy has demanded the state government to take immediate steps to see that Central teams visited and studied the loss of crops in 14 districts following the Neelam cyclone, and provide adequate compensation to the farmers, who lost their crops.

In a statement here on Sunday, Kishan Reddy said that crops in about 24 lakh acres were lost due to Neelam cyclone, and paddy, cotton, ground nut and peanut crops were submerged during the last four days; and farmers lost crops worth Rs 2,500 crores. He urged that the ministers and officials should visit the cyclone affected districts and restore confidence among the farmers, who lost their crops.

He demanded the ministers and officials to visit the affected areas and prepare a preliminary report on the crop losses. The central disaster study teams should visit the affected areas to prepare a report on loss of crops, due to Neelam cyclone. He urged the agriculture and insurance officials to visit the affected areas and estimate the loss of crops and pay full insurance cover to the farmers for crop losses.

He demanded the state government to immediately pay Rs 10,000 towards expenditure to the farmers, who lost their crops. He demanded the state government to waive this year bank loans, which were taken by the farmers. He wanted the state government to provide seeds and pesticides to farmers free of cost to cultivate other crops. (NSS)
