BJP asks Centre for white paper on China

New Delhi, September 18: Accusing the government of ignoring the need for reinforcing infrastructure along the border with China despite frequent incursions, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi Thursday asked it to share details with the Leader of the Opposition and bring out a white paper on the issue.

“This is a fact of life that the Government of India is ignoring even after 1962 (war with China). Government should have been active in reinforcing our infrastructure (on China border),” Joshi said.
He said the entire border with China in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim has been “neglected” by the government.

“”The Prime Minister should take the Leader of the Opposition into confidence and tell him what is the state of affairs. The country would like to know about the state of affairs and the government should bring out a white paper on what is being done on our northern borders, including Afghanistan and China,” Joshi said.

Joshi charged the government with not playing an active role in improving infrastructure along the border.

Asked if he agreed with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav that a special session of Parliament should be convened to discuss Chinese incursions, Joshi said he would wait for the outcome of the National Security Council meeting before taking a call.

“A couple of years ago, I had warned about Maoists in Almora district and Chinese incursions in Uttarakhand which have been going on for a number of years,” he said.
