BJP announces candidates for bypolls to 4 seats

Lucknow, September 05: The BJP has announced candidates for bypolls to four assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow (West), which fell vacant after senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon was elected to the Lok Sabha in May.

Amit Puri, former state president of local bodies cell, has been named as candidate for the Lucknow (West) seat, a party spokesperson said.

Puri had, earlier, unsuccessfully contested the 2007 assembly elections as an independent candidate after being denied ticket by the BJP.

Former MLC Rajesh Pandey Guddu has been named party candidate from Padrauna, Ravi Sharma from Jhansi and Anirudh will contest from Haiserbazar (reserved) seat, the spokesperson said.

Dates of the by-election are yet to be announced by the Election Commission, he said.
