Srinagar, January 28:The claims of kidnapping and torture made by a BJP woman activist in Budgam district of Kashmir took a new turn late tonight as police said investigations have revealed that she had concocted a politically-motivated story.
“The details of the cellular phone towers on the SIM cards used by the woman show that she was present in Bemina area of the city throughout the period she claimed to be in custody of her alleged kidnappers,” a police spokesman said.
Haleema Bano, a BJP activist who had unsuccessfully contested the 2008 Assembly elections from Uri constituency of Baramulla district, claimed that she was tortured by unknown persons after being kidnapped on January 24 from Shiekhpora in Budgam district.
She claimed that she was released yesterday by her abductors and was admitted to SMHS hospital this morning with seven to 10 per cent burn injuries to her arms and back.
