New Delhi: The BJP on Friday accused Congress leader P.L. Punia of “politicising” the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
“Punia is working as a Congress spokesperson even though he holds a constitutional post. The Commission has become non-functional under his chairmanship and it has not been able to provide justice to the people of the community,” Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri said at a press conference here.
Shastri also accused opposition parties of playing politics over the killing of two children of a Dalit family in a Haryana village on Tuesday.
“It was a case of personal enmity but the opposition political parties are giving a colour of caste conflict to it. The Haryana government has taken prompt action against the culprits and eight people have been arrested so far,” he said.
The BJP leader, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, also attacked Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati for criticising the Centre and the state government for the Haryana incident.
“She (Mayawati) has been exposed on different Dalit issues as she has done nothing for the betterment of the community,” Shastri said.
