BJP for 15-day Assembly session to discuss ‘burning’ issues

New Delhi, December 23: Alleging that the Delhi government has failed on all the fronts, BJP today demanded that the winter session of Delhi Assembly be convened for at least 15 days to discuss various burning issues. The party will raise several issues including price rise, law and order, gross neglect of unauthorised colonies, giving more powers to Lokayukta and others in the session which is scheduled from January 9-13. A meeting of BJP Legislative Party was held under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra in which the party s strategy was finalised. The BJP Legislative Party also objected to the decision of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to convene the Assembly session only for five days. Friday will be a non-official day. Remaining four days will be busy with the government decisions and there will not be any day left to discuss and deliberate on various burning problems of Delhi, Prof Malhotra said in a statement. The Legislative Party demanded that the Assembly session be convened for at least 15 days. Prof Malhotra said the Legislative Party demanded making of Delhi Lokayukta more strong according to the proposed Lokpal Bill. The power to institute inquiry and to award punishment should be given to the Lokayukta. Lokayukta has given its decision against the Chief Minister and other ministers but no action has been taken so far. Instead, the decisions were thrown in dustbin.
