Bird-hit cases on rise; airlines suffer Rs 7 cr loss

New Delhi, November 18: Airlines have suffered a loss of around Rs seven crore, so far, this year due to bird-hit cases in the country.

Till October, 241 bird-hit cases were reported, out of which Kingfisher airlines suffered the most due to 60 such incidents, followed by Jet Airways (49), SpiceJet (30), Indigo (27), Air India (24) GoAir (7) and Paramount (1).

There have been about 34 instances of aircraft of international airlines being hit by birds, figures released by the Civil Aviation Ministry said today.

The airlines in India have suffered a financial loss of Rs 6.98 crore this year because of such incidents.

Jet Airways suffered a loss of Rs 8.91 lakhs, Indigo of Rs 87 lakhs, Spice Jet of Rs 5.57 crore and GoAir of Rs 45.6 lakhs. The figures of losses from Air India and Kingfisher were not available.
