New Delhi, January 18: Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra has been ruled out of the next two shooting World Cups and Commonwealth shooting championships as the teams have already been finalised.
Announcing this, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said Monday Bindra will be considered for the third and fourth World Cups after assessing his international scores.
Bindra Friday threatened to quit shooting after he was left out of the Commonwealth Championships on the grounds of not attending the trials.
“Bindra has been ruled out of first two World Cups. We can’t accomodate him right now because the squad has been announced and the government has given their approval,” NRAI secretary-general Baljeet Sethi said Monday.
“We will, however, consider him for the third and fourth World Cups after assessment of his international scores.”
“We have asked IOA president Suresh Kalmadi to sort out the issue. We have called on Abhinav’s father to come with his scores and meet Kalmadi tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.
