Bill to amend NDMC Act introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, August 03: A bill to give local representatives under New Delhi Municipal Council area more say in the civic body was introduced in the Lok Sabha today.

Minister of State for Home M Ramachandran introduced the bill seeking to amend the New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994.

The bill relates to changes in the composition of the NDMC by making the MP of the area its member with voting right and provides for increasing the number of members from 11 to 12.

It also provides for raising the number of representatives belonging to the scheduled castes from one now to two.

According to the amendment bill, a Chief Minister, if representing the NDMC area, will chair the meetings of the council. Alternatively, an MP of the area, if he or she is a minister, will chair the meetings.
