Bikers in Ahmedabad, wear helmet or leave bike on road from August 10!

Ahmedabad, July 31: From August 10, 2011 city roads will not tolerate helmet-less riders on two-wheelers. Either you love your helmet or lose your bike, declared cops who are on a warpatyh to ensure safety for all on city streets.

The police will show zero tolerance for traffic rules violators who don’t wear a helmet. If the commissioner of police, Ahmedabad city, Sudhir Sinha is to be believed than those days of yore when one could zoom away freely after paying a penalty of Rs50 is no longer valid.

Being on liberal side, police, for the first three days of the implementation of the no- tolerance for helmet violators, will allow the miscreant to go if they show a helmet.

Talking to DNA, Sinha said that the first three days of strict implementation of the fresh circular will be just to warn citizens to follow the law.

“For the first three days, the detained vehicles will be released once the riders can show his or her helmet either by purchasing it or by bringing it from their home,” he said. During this time, no penalty will be levied from the rider and the vehicle will be released once the helmet is shown.

But, from August 13 onwards, this privilege given to the traffic violators will not be continued. “From this day onwards, two-wheelers of those people who are found without helmets will be seized and they will have to pay a heavy penalty in the RTO to release the vehicle,” Sinha said. The penalty amount will be around Rs2000 to Rs2,500, police said.
