Etawah: Two brothers drowned as the motorcycle they were riding fell in a canal after colliding with a car on the Etawah-Kannauj highway, police said today.
Satyendra (27) and Akhilesh (25) were riding the motorbike when they were hit by a car at Baharpura-Naharpul yesterday. Both the vehicles fell into the canal. However, the driver of the car survived and fled the scene, a police official said.
“The locals jumped in the canal to rescue the duo but could fish out only one body. The other was retrieved by police after a three hours,” the official said.
The locals placed the body on the road to protest the “late arrival” of police causing a traffic jam and also resorted to stone pelting.
“The mob pelted stones at the team which arrived at the spot to clear the road in which some police and government staff were injured,” SDM G L Shukla said, adding, “The road was however cleared after pacifying the crowd.
