Big crack in Makkah Masjid sump exposes substandard work

Not even a single year has passed since the sump was constructed in Makkah Masjid that it is scarred with a big crack. The sump with a capacity of one lakh gallon water constructed with the cost of Rs. 1.4 crore has developed big crack and the water oozing out of it poses threat to the foundation of Makkah Masjid. Although the concerned contractor has sealed the crack with the help of sand and cement but the experts say that the work is temporary and can be a threat if not repaired permanently. A panel of engineers belonging to Roads and buildings department, GHMC and Water Board should prepare a report after thoroughly inspecting the sump to prevent the historic structure from any potential damage.
